A winter reunion for the orphans brings romance for Neville Cross in Book 4 of Mimi Matthews’ USA Today bestselling Parish Orphans of Devon series.

She Needed to be Seen…

As a lady’s companion, Clara Hartwright never receives much attention from anyone. And that’s precisely how she likes it. With a stormy past, and an unconventional plan for her future, it’s far safer to remain invisible. But when her new employer is invited to a month-long holiday at a remote coastal abbey, Clara discovers that she may not be as invisible as she’d hoped. At least, not as far as one gentleman is concerned.

He Wanted to be Heard…

Neville Cross has always been more comfortable with animals than people. An accident in his youth has left him with a brain injury that affects his speech. Forming the words to speak to his childhood friends is difficult enough. Finding the right things to say to a lovely young lady’s companion seems downright impossible. But Miss Hartwright is no ordinary companion. In fact, there may not be anything ordinary about her at all.

During a bleak Devon winter, two sensitive souls forge an unexpected friendship. But when Clara needs him most, will Neville find the courage to face his fears? Or is saying goodbye to her the most heroic thing he can do?

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

The Winter Companion is the fourth and final book in Mimi Matthews’ Parish Orphans of Devon series. This was a delightful book, like all the others in this series.

There is something special about all the books that this highly talented author has written. This one, just like the others is endearing as it is charming. The romance is swoon worthy and the author creates such an mesmerizing ambiance that actually brings forth a warm cozy feelings.

These feelings will make you light hearted long after you have finished reading the book. This is a exceptional rare talent only seen in very few authors I have read before.

The two main characters, Neville Cross and Clara Hartwright, come together splendidly. Both of them have wonderful qualities and make a really lovely couple. They are compatible with each other as they both have emotional human kindness toward animals and the less fortunate.

Neville is the quiet and strong hero and a captivating gentlemen. His injuries are depicted in such a way that makes him all the more sweeter and lovable. Clara, is definitely one of my favorites, her caring warm disposition is a treasure.

Mimi Matthews writing is incredible she delivers a stunning well paced and beautifully written love story here with interesting, compelling, and believable characters that I found quite compassionate to read about. I felt connected with characters and enjoyed how the plot line unfolded.

There’s is some dramatics from the past and personal events that adds a layer of depth within this lovely captivating book.

This heartwarming book was a splendidly written, with richly descriptive details. The engaging prose and captivating characters, made it one of my favorite Victorian romances ever.

This is a spoiler free review so I won’t say to much on account because I don’t wish to give away to much of the emotional and perfect romance away to those who have been patiently waiting for this book.
